At Nolan we aim to save you money while helping the environment.
You only need to look at the facts to appreciate the significance of energy efficient windows and doors.
Between 5-10% of heat can be lost through poorly fitting single glazed windows and a further 15% through sub-standard doors. In older properties this can be as high as 50%.
As to saving money, research shows that a single glazed window loses energy at a rate of -198 kWh/m2 per year. Assuming electricity costs around 11p per kWh, and that the average house has eight square metres of glass, double glazing could save you around £167 per year.
Our windows, doors and conservatories help keep fuel bills down and the rain and draughts out. They boast excellent heat insulation features including snug fitting seals and Pilkington low emissivity, or low E glass - a special glass with an invisible, heat reflective coating that makes it more energy efficient.
Around 20% of the heat lost from your home is through your windows!
Installing high-performance, energy-efficient windows will save you money and significantly reduce your home's carbon emissions.
Pilkington energiKare is different from standard double glazing as it works in two ways. It reduces the amount of heat lost through windows and it also allows more heat (energy) from the sun in through the window.
Pilkington energiKare is made up of two special types of glass - Pilkington K Glass, which stops heat escaping and Pilkington Optiwhite, a special 'extra clear' glass that allows more heat from the sun through the windows.
The use of argon gas filling or air filling with a warm edge spacer further improves the thermal performance, and your home benefits by feeling warmer without the need to turn up the heating.
All our products comply with Document L (Building Regulations) so offer good thermal performance.
Window Energy Ratings (WERs) take into account available solar heat gain (window g-value) and subtract the thermal losses (window U-value and air leakage). The resulting value (Energy Index) is then placed into a band on an A-G scale similar to other energy performance labels you will be familiar with.
All of our windows are manufactured to comply with the minimum level for replacement windows - C-rated (as of 1st October 2010), but we can provide higher specification products that fully support A and B WERs.
To improve energy efficiency even further, our customers have the option of upgrading the specification of a double-glazed unit by increasing the width of the unit's cavity to 20mm and/or replacing the air within it with Argon gas (a static gas that has better thermal properties than dry air).
